Letter to the Appeals Court - an Appeal for Tyler Edmonds
Dear Honorable Justices,
This is a support letter for Tyler Wayne Edmonds asking you to please
reconsider hearing another appeal on his behalf. lt was with great sadness
that I learned of your recent denial of his appeal to the Court to adjust
his current inhumane sentence. l understand that there are certain laws
at hand which do not protect Tyler currently, but believe there is more
you can do to help this CHILD in giving him a more appropriate decision.
l am 45 years old, the mother of 2 teenaged sons, have
a Bachelor's Degree, and am a Coordinator at an Assisted Living Home.
l also work on a volunteer basis as a Juvenile Justice Advocate belonging
to several lnternet groups in support of Juvenile Legal Reform. l have
corresponded with Tyler several times now, and find him to be an exceptionally
bright, artistic, and personable young man. l cannot believe that the
State of Mississippi has not found him to be amenable to treatment and
has literally given him a living death sentence for which l am sure he
does not deserve.
l greatly appreciate Representative Flaggs' work in creating House Bill
1090 which would be a great step in helping juveniles caught up in the
adult legal system to be given the chance at redemption. lt was with great
sadness to learn that this Bill did not even reach the Senate for voting
at this time. Meanwhile, Tyler Edmonds is contained in a small cell with
his life in the balance waiting for legistlators to turn the wheels of
justice at a painfully slow pace which is to be expected.
l ask of the Court to please consider with the utmost of care to hear
Tyler Edmonds' appeal from a fresh perspective and give him this much-needed
chance at having hope for his future. This child is worth saving, and
you have this golden opportunity to show your great state that Mississippi
does indeed care for the future of it's children.
l thank you most humbly for listening to my heartfelt opinion here, and
l thank you for your wisdom and everlasting quest for justice!
Sincerely,
Susan Fillebrown
